Green Lantern Corps. #2 // Review

Shayera asks her how she’s doing. Her race and her world have been winnowed down to noting. They’re forced to live among enemies who are showing the pity but secretly celebrating that fall of their opponents. So Shayera isn’t doing very well. She’s had better times. They’re about to get a bit worse in Green Lantern Corps. #2. The writing team of Morgan Hampton and Jeremy Adams continues the latest exploits of the Corps. with penciler Fernando Pasarin, inker Oclair Alber and colorist Arif Prianto  Hampton, Adams and company capably juggle a rahter large ensemble of characters in another enjoyable issue.

The Red Lantern known as Atrocitus is looking to mine the corpse of the planet of Thanagar. There are a few  green lanterns who have arrived to stop him from doing what he’s doing. John, Shayera are going to have to tread lightly as they enter Arocitus’ ship if they don’t want to be overwhelmed by Atrocitus’ forces. They make it into the right chamber and they will find raher large harness around the Red Lantern known as Zilius. He’s in a hall of a lot of pain, but he DOES seem to be channeling red energy, which is particularly disconcerting.

Hamton and Adams do a really good job of keeping the pacing moving throughout the entire issue. There's a nice mix of action and intrigue and drama that is animating the entire interior. It's not terribly engaging, but it is a lot of fun. It's clever shift from where things have been between, the green and red lanterns over the years. And again: it's just really nice to see.Hawk Girl featured so prominently in another issue. The overall plot is not necessarily very sophisticated but it IS a lot of fun to see where they're going with it.

Pasarin and Albert have a well rendered visual world to explore. Their work on the interior of the spacecraft makes it really look well designed and thought out. This is often the case with respect to alien spacecraft comic books. So often it just comes across like a whole bunch of gaming corridors don't necessarily, have any function outside of serving as the backdrop for the action. However, the team really seems to have put some thought into the overall design of the alien spacecraft. The kinetic nature of the action, the page quite well. There isn't really a whole lot of time for deeply nuance to drama, but it doesn't need to be there. The visuals work really well, but just entirely in the level of physical action.

It's a fun issue. It would likely be very difficult for anyone to follow who wasn't necessarily introduced to some of the basic elements of the green lantern. It can get pretty murky with respect to some of the basic elements of the plot and what it is going on and it is truly the issue. This is kind of a problem as, the story would need to be framed to just a little bit better to be able to reach out to people who aren't all familiar with the characters.
