DC Finds HARLEY QUINN/BIRDS OF PREY Director

Cathy Yan is in line to direct DC Films' Harley Quinn/Birds of Prey movie, according to Deadline. The Hollywood trade reports that a final contract between Yan and Warner Bros. has not yet been completed, but the studio chose Yan over "numerous well established male directors." Yan had an "exceptional" pitch for the film, and Margot Robbie - who will star in and produce this movie, spinning out of Suicide Squad - was said to be adamant that this film be directed by a woman.

Yan would come into the Harley Quinn/Birds of Prey project after her most recent film, Dead Pigs, won Sundance's World Cinema Dramatic Award for Ensemble Acting.

Christina Hodson has already written a script for this DC film, with Deadline expecting it to begin production by late 2018 or early 2019.

No release date has been set.
