Injustice 2 Review
Injustice 2 has everything that the first game had (bar a few characters and the subtitle: Gods Among Us) and much more! Not only that but everything from the characters, the moves and the cut scenes all look twice as good!
Honestly if you're a fan of the first game then you have to give the sequel a shot! There is no reason not to.
As I said, the cut scenes look awesome, which is important for a game like this because much like with the first, it is essentially an interactive movie. Every time a character needs to fight someone else, the player takes control. I would have happily watched this as a movie in its own right- however, getting to literally be a part of it is a lot of fun!
The story builds from the first game in which Superman starts his dictatorship and hires several heroes to his regime while Batman leads the resistance against him. This game deals with some of the aftermath but also tackles a whole new threat entirely. That threat is Braniac.
I loved Brainiac in the game, I'm hoping that it will inspire the folks at Warner Bro's to feature him in Man of Steel 2 because there is a whole lot of potential with that villain. Not that I'm not satisfied with him in the game! He was menacing and very difficult to defeat! He was probably the most frustrating character to go up against in the story mode.
I also really appreciated how they handled Supergirl in the game. After her pod got knocked off course she arrived on Earth long after Superman did, even after he was defeated and arrested at the end of the first game. She was probably the stand out character for me. At first I found her annoying but the player goes on a journey with her as she makes realisations and struggles with which side she is on.
The story isn't as groundbreaking as the first game but it is still full of great moments and character interactions. My one problem is that the finale, without spoiling it, is a bit abrupt. The main threat is dealt with but there are a lot of threads left dangling that I would have liked to have seen tied off.
Gameplay is pretty great, it handles pretty much exactly the same as the old game but with some slightly different moves and different finisher moves. The only thing I found disappointing about that was that Flash and Reverse Flash have the same finishers. I mean it's potentially the coolest move in the game but I still wanted something different.
In terms of replayability, the game has you covered with the "Multiverse" option. Which is a series of challenges taking place throughout alternative versions of the DC universe. Its fun and it is cool to see different versions of the characters that you are used to seeing in the game. Also it's a lot of fun to play multiplayer with your friends! Fighting iconic battles like Flash vs Reverse Flash or Batman v Superman is fun and it causes endless entertainment. Sooner or later you are bound to find your favourite character and stick with it, but until then there are plenty to choose from!
For gameplay, I'm giving it a B. For the most part, its all simple enough to fight with, however, I'm still a bit confused with clashes?...
For story I'm giving it a B+, only because it had a lot to live up to thanks to the first game! The story is great but it didn't beat the first one for me.
The graphics are all phenomenal, so it gets top marks for that. I'm giving the graphics and the design in general an A! It's very cool to see all of these characters sharing the screen.
Overall, I am very pleased with it and I have probably already sunk far too many hours into playing it. This is something special though! and I'm holding out hope for a third game too...
