After a near 5 month delay, the seemingly canceled title returns, at least for now. Geoff Johns and artist Dale Eaglesham are joined once again by DC legend Scott Kolins to help with pencil duties. Following the multiple huge revelations from the previous issue, this chapter sets the stage for the Magic War still to come. The heartwarming tale of this surrogate family continues to be a breath of fresh air on the stands, making for an entertaining and wholesome read.
Opening in the newly introduced Wozenderlands, the famous White Rabbit finds himself late once more as he races throughout the realm. With the kids split apart, Billy and Mary are left to deal with their adoptive parents. Revealing their ultimate secret, the two must set back for the Magiclands in search of the remainder of the Marvel Family. As Dr. Sivana and Mister Mind having worked together to take down Black Adam, now set their sights on the family as they work from the shadows. With an imposter amongst the family, Billy and Mary must act fast.
Dale Eaglesham delivers beautifully rendered work for the first two-thirds of the issue while Scott Kolins brings his signature style for the remainder of the installment. Eaglesham’s ability to produce these lush backgrounds truly bring various Magiclands to life. Colorist Mike Atiyeh continues to layers the pages in beautifully high saturated lavish gloss. Giving the series a clean pop finish and evoking a more classic look for the once pulp comic.
From Doomsday Clock to his very own corner with the titular hero, Geoff Johns continues to find himself plagued by delay after delay for one reason or another. The multiple artists on board this title were seemingly put together to make up for what can only be assumed as late scripts on Johns’ behalf. Albeit an incredibly heartwarming and entertaining series, the unreliable release dates can ultimately cause fans to lose interest quickly.
With future solicitations seeming to have this series back on track, the next issue of Doomsday Clock still remains nearly three months away. While hope continues to wane for Johns getting out his scripts on time. As only one chapter remains on the title above, hopefully, the finale will allow for more time between Johns and the Big Red Cheese. Eaglesham and Kolins continue to bring excellent work to this title and help to bring the heart truly to life. Albeit incredibly late, the series continues to bring the heart and fun to the market.
