Joss Whedon exits Batgirl

Not even being a full year after announcing he has plans to write and direct a Batgirl film, Joss Whedon announces he is leaving the project. Here is his reasoning behind leaving

“Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story,” Whedon told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement. Referring to DC president Geoff Johns and Warners Picture Group president Toby Emmerich, Whedon added, “I’m grateful to Geoff and Toby and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I… uh, is there a sexier word for ‘failed’?”

So it sounds like Whedon was not able to come up with a good story for the film but who knows what really happened after a large portion of DC fans have blames Whedon for the failures of Justice League. Now only time will tell if DC/WB has plans to move forward with the film with another Director/Writer or just shelve the film altogether.
