Captain Marvel #10 // Review

Kelly Thompson blurs the line between friends and enemies, heroes and villains as Captain Marvel falls deeper into the mystery surrounding her recent power malfunction. With art from Carmen Carnero, colors from Tamra Bonvillain, and letters by VC’s Clayton Cowles, Captain Marvel #10 is a turning point for the story with beautiful visuals.

Minerva knows why Carol’s powers aren’t working but fixing the problem is going to fall on Carol’s shoulders. She’s already lost her career, the love of the people, and a friend. So what more does she have to lose?

Thompson gives Minerva some much-needed context in this issue, explaining how she fits into the recent events in Captain Marvel’s life. Star gets the same treatment as her true identity is finally revealed.

There’s a scene where Captain Marvel is falling out of the sky that fits perfectly with the title of the arc, “Falling Star.” For all of her power and bravado, she’s helpless against the forces larger than her, both gravity and the plot Minerva’s set in motion.

While this isn’t the first time Carol’s had her powers drained, this is a refreshing take on the plot that’s going to have far-reaching effects on her life.
