Daredevil #603 // Review

Matt Murdock gets another player on his side, but can New York remain standing in this crippled state?

Matt Murdock’s double life continues to get more complex as Charles Soule, Mike Henderson, and Matt Milla return for another issue of Daredevil. Now at #603, and deep into the Mayor Murdock storyline, Soule seems to delight in making life hard for the new mayor.

Matt monologues while a new player in the war for New York is added: his on again, off again, dead again, alive again love, Elektra. The choreography for the scene, initially set on a motorcycle, is great and explains how much of a badass she is without even needing Matt’s narration. Luckily, Matt is able to recruit Elektra to his side for the time being, but isn’t done making bad decisions yet. What about the criminal masterminds Fisk captured a few issues back? The Hand don’t lie down in this issue either, unleashing the next piece of their plan.

Soule has been building this story for a while, and the plot threads left dangling are being drawn in wonderfully. Seeing Elektra brought back is a nice treat, and her dialogue with Matt just drips with their history. Soule’s banter with Foggy and Matt is nothing short of a delight as well.

It could be redundant at this point to comment on how awe-inspiring the art is from Henderson and Milla this far into the run, but it needs to be said. The pencils remain wonderful from Henderson, and bring a real life to the characters beyond their two dimensional selves. Milla’s colors are also fantastic, doing nothing but improving the already incredible art.

While Daredevil isn’t always a book for everyone, Soule and his crew have built up a story that is a must-read for everyone.
