Doctor Strange #385 review

Doctor Strange is by Donny Cates with art by Gabriel Hernandez Walta and Jordie Belaire

Cates has wrapped up the first arc of Doctor Strange and what a wild ride it has been. His run so far has been full of shocks and surprises and this issue is no different.

This issue picks up right where the last issue left off with Loki about to fight Strange who happens to be possessed with the Void. Which in doing so causes Loki to pull the Exile of Shangshoon from the soul of Zelma Stanton which is what Strange originally had set out to stop. But with Loki being far better at magic than Strange realized, he ends up restoring magic on earth and we get a team up of Sentry,Loki, and Doctor Strange against the void. This issue then leaves us with Zelma taking off on her own feeling betrayed, Sentry pissed off and roaming the marvel universe, Strange as the Sorcerer Supreme again,a fan favorite returning, and we learn how Loki weasels his way into being Sorcerer Supreme.

Overall this was an overall solid issue with lots of great action and some really well written reveals. This issue also is extremely fast paced and reads fast but doesn’t fail to deliver on any of its big moments because of this though. The art is still on par with previous issues and the film fantasy pallets used by colorist Jordie Belaire fits the tone of the book perfectly. I personally would have liked for Loki to be Sorcerer Supreme a little bit longer but I’m excited to see where else Cates takes Strange. This book is gonna get a B+
