Avengers #675 No Surrender Part 1

The Earth has been stolen, the Avengers have assembled and damn do they look good! This fast paced issue wastes no time going all over the 616 displaying the repercussions of Earth being sucked through a wormhole by an unknown force. From two back to back events of heroes versus heroes, it's so refreshing to see our heroes actually working together. This issue is a back to basics event reminiscent of Secret Wars from the 1980's. Throughout the Earth a handful of characters have been frozen in place and the remaining Avengers must assemble to face this crisis while at a loss in numbers.

Three writers worked really well for this issue while having to jump around the Marvel Universe touching base with different characters. The voices of the heroes stayed faithful to the previous titles and the narrative overall flows together organically. With fifteen issues to go in this weekly series we are still left with so many questions that will keep it in many pull lists. With that being said, sixteen issues does cause trepidation but it's off to a great start and worth a read. No Surrender part one is a great jumping on point for new readers and disenfranchised readers as well an event with potential. It’s by far the most interesting The Avengers have been since Jonathan Hickman's run on the respective titles.

Picking up up threads from the pages of Marvel Legacy #1, Voyager has finally made her appearance after her existence has mysteriously been brought about. The mysteries surrounding Voyager, and the speculation, leave me very interested in what's to come from No Surrender. One thing is for certain, our heroes know her already.

This issue absolutely screams high quality art on all fronts. This Mark Brooks cover, and the covers to come, truly show how great the Marvel Universe should look. Pepe Larraz killed it on the interior art, his Rogue looks amazing to say the least. David Curiel did a great job on the colors making everything really pop and appealing to the eye. This level of quality is how The Avengers should always look.

No Surrender part one leaves us with lots of questions but an equal amount of interest. Luckily it's a weekly series, these next four months hope to be a game changer for The House of Ideas.
