Baby Driver

I didn’t intend on writing a Baby Driver review tonight. I just left the theater and my plan was to go home and sleep on the movie and write about it tomorrow when I’ve had time to think it over. But that’s not the kind of movie Baby Driver is. Time after time we see our lovable yet naive protagonist, Baby, set “thinking about it” aside and just put in his headphones and get to work. So that’s what I’m doing, writing this review to the sounds of Radar Love by Golden Earring.

Don’t want to read the entirety of this review? You don’t have to because Baby Driver is phenomenal and I don’t have anything negative to say about it.

Edgar Wright has long been one of my favorite directors and this is Edgar Wright at his absolute best. Every beat and shot is perfectly in tune and there isn’t a single missed opportunity to be found here. From something as simple as Baby walking down the street singing and dancing to Harlem Shuffle by Bob & Earl to something as complex as a car chase and shootout set to Brighton Rock by Queen, I felt like every emotion I felt was personally directed by Wright.

From the biggest film snob to the person who just watches movies when they come on TNT at night, Baby Driver has something for you. Go see it. We are now over halfway through 2017 and there are a lot of movies to come out before you start seeing “Best of 2017” lists but I can promise you that Baby Driver deserves it space in every one of them. Probably somewhere right at the top.

P.S. I would be remiss if I failed to mention the first incarnation of Baby Driver. A spectacular music video directed by Edgar Wright and starring Noel Fielding:
